In late June I played a 3-day warm-up tournament to European championships in Amsterdam with the German women’s national team. We finished 4th, which was about what we expected. For such a competitive tournament though, the social activities in the evenings were a lot of fun complete with a capoeira demonstration, speed dating, catered dinners, the ‘mingle, mingle, mingle’ game (see below), and a live band. Most of these pics are from the tournament’s website. A few pictures from the women’s final. Great Britain beat Finland, although a month later for Europeans it was the other way around.

The after-the-game-huddle is a neat tradition for ultimate in Europe. The teams form a circle alternating players. Each team makes a small speech (sometimes we sing and give out candy and shots as well) and we finish with high-fives.

The trophies….including clogs!

‘Mingle, mingle, mingle’: a socializing get-to-know other people game for Saturday evening. There are different moves called out by the “Caller” (guy with the megaphone in the background). Everyone jumps around randomly until a move is called out, at which point everyone has to find a partner to act out the required move. People who are too slow, don’t find a partner or who do the wrong move are eliminated. Below are some of the funniest ones: Jet ski and tandem skydive.
